This journey has been interesting and rewarding. Must admit, this is definitely a work in process ... I'm learning as I go. Honestly, I am a beginner of intermittent fasting, journaling this process to possibly help other beginners.
The last 25 years of my life has been lived by jumping in the water rapids before putting on a life jacket (so to speak). If something looks promising, if it is viewed to improve my life, if it resonates with my soul, I will take that first baby step into the unknown. Taking the time to research 100% is not an option on my world, I tend to carve the way through experience. Not suggesting you do the same, just indicating this is my way of life.
A good friend of mine always says, "If you don't have your health, you have nothing". How true is that? Without your optimum health, what is your quality of life? Ask anyone that is seriously ill, most are living in survival mode with dreadful daily challenges.
It's extremely important for me to stay as healthy as possible, especially at this time on Earth where toxins seem to be overloading our system. I really want to enjoy this later part of my life. So many people retire only to find their health ailments deter them from their dreams of retirement. My dream of retirement is to reach out and help people from all walks of life. I have no desire to sit, relax and watch television as a retiree!
Nothing worth having is ever easy and with the baby steps in the past 2 weeks, I feel the knowledge and experience gained has graduated me to steps:
"Baby steps lead to steps,
steps lead to strides and
strides lead to goals."
Here are the highlights of Week #03 fasting experience:
Note: The morning routine of ingesting an 8 ounce glass of filtered water with a supplement continues this week. All other natural supplements have been discontinued with successful results.
Day 1 - This day I successfully completed a 24 hour fast, no food, just water and plain herbal tea (no sugar/cream/milk). It was not easy, it was challenging but I've never been one to shy away from a challenge. At no point did I think of eating anything, but with occasional sharp stomach pains I would drink water with a dash of Celtic Salt alleviating the symptoms. Went to bed with a pounding headache. I do not take pharma anything, including over counter pain killers. Using my natural pain remedies, sleep finally arrived for 6 hours without waking once, which has not happened in my life for decades.
Day 2 - Woke up with a bit of a headache making a plan to be mindful of staying hydrated today. My morning water helped with the headache as did further natural remedies. Noticed a few red spots on my skin last night at bedtime. One can only assume my body is pushing the toxins out! As mentioned previously, natural healing is a far cry from the use of pharma meds,. The side effects (of natural healing) are permanently making our bodies healthy, unlike the daily ritual of taking pharma pills that never really heal our ailments. After 48 hours of fasting, at 5pm today I ate a healthy meal because the headache would not go away. My goal was 72 hours (3 days) but I feel good about the first try of fasting 2 entire days.
Day 3 - It was suggested to remain on the 18:6 protocol for at least a week before trying to complete 3 days (72 hours) of fasting. All is good today and my health guru suggested I do a detox foot bath together with a lymph massage to help lymphatic system drainage that might be overloaded with the body detox. These two process definitely show improvement with the struggles of my body. Again, it's imperative to be drinking lots of water with Celtic Salt.
Day 4 - Work is extremely busy these days and it took me until 12:30pm to be able to eat my first meal (usual time is 11:00 am). Adopting a new drink to replace my store bought orange juice, I am using a blender to mix multiple fresh fruits into a juice which is much healthier without the added sugar and preservatives. So looking forward to the farmer markets opening up for fresh farm food this season!
Day 5 - Today was another demanding work day and I really was not hungry at my usual scheduled time. Eating my first meal close to 2:00 pm I decide it was necessary to cut my usual 6 hours of eating time short today, in an attempt to get closer to 11:00 am for the first meal tomorrow. Took the time today setting up a new food dehydrator recently purchased and experimented with zucchini requiring 12 hours of cooking.
Day 6 - Woke up to the zucchini chips completely cooked. Placing them in a jar, I am looking forward to a taste trial this afternoon. It seems the shorter span of eating yesterday has given me a hunger hang-over today LOL. However, a few hunger pangs will not deter my ambition to get back onto the schedule of eating from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Day 7 - It's been 3 weeks of successful fasting. This morning, reviewing the journey thus far, it is a lifestyle I will definitely be adopting for the benefit of my overall health. My physical energy has increased and the IBS subsided (unless eating too much natural sugar from fruit or dates). My plans are to continue the cycles of fasting to discover the healing powers of such.
Summary of Health Improvements (thus far):
Requiring less sleep likely because I am sleeping better
The itchy rash is 90% healed
The issue with my tooth continues to heal
Energy levels continue to increase
A natural supplement glutathione has been successfully removed without any adverse effects (huge cost savings)
This week was a mixture of 48 hours fasting and 18:6 intermittent fasting. This is definitely becoming quite the lifestyle for me and am enjoying the new found health. Heading into week 4 perhaps I will attempt a full 72 hours or more of fasting.
Stay tuned for Week #04 of my fasting journey!
