Safe pine trees to gather needles from:

            White Pine

Long green needles growing in clusters of five (5)

            Fir Pine

Look closely and you can see the Fir needles attach individually to the branch. If you turn the needles over, it has two (2) distinct white strips

            White Spruce

These needles are sharp and rigid and short compared to a pine needle

Test the needles on the tree by rolling the needle between your fingers.

If it rolls easily and has four even sides, it is a spruce

If it is flat and doesn’t roll easily in your fingers it is a fir

Spruce needles tend to be sharp and pointy while fir needles are a bit softer

            Cedar

Not needles, not leaves, made up of scale like sections

How to brew pine needle tea:

  • cut the needles into small pieces and add to tea pot

  • boil distilled water and pour into a teapot

  • simmer the tea for as long as you want (the longer, the stronger)

  • can add dash of lemon and/or some honey (if desired)

IF YOU ARE PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING DO NOT DRINK THIS TEA!
