Remember that fear always lurks behind perfectionism. Confronting your fears and allowing yourself the right to be human can, paradoxically, make you a far happier and more productive person. ~~David M. Burns~~

Do you have a dream? Do you see yourself able to achieve that dream someday? If not, “Why?” Now, think about your answer. Could it be nothing more than an excuse for not facing your fear?
During my business career, I was blessed to have worked with a mentor that I absolutely admired, his name was John. Out of everything he taught me, the one that stuck with me through business and personal life was his theory about band-aids.
As team managers we encountered many problems. He refused to implement, what he referred to as, “a band-aid solution”. A band-aid solution is something you create to immediately move forward. However, it does not get to the core of the problem and fix it forever.
Using band-aid solutions will haunt you, time and time again. John insisted that we take the extra time, in the heat of the moment, to dig into the cause of the problem. Once found, we then implemented a “permanent” solution thereby never having to “re-visit” the problem in the future.
At first this frustrated me. Through another mentor in my early years I was taught to work as fast as possible. This theory proved to earn me seven business promotions in less than a decade. Stopping to take the time to “research and discover” seemed like a very ineffective use of time. However, it certainly brews efficiency in sailing forward into the future.
My own personal journey to freedom was a process of trial and error. One day, it finally occurred to me that I might be using band-aid solutions in my life. Stopping to take the time to self reflect brought my fears to the surface. This was when I could actually face the fear and move onward and upward into my healing journey.
There's no secret to getting started. You simply decide and then take your first step. With each subsequent step, the next one becomes easier. ~~Tom Venutot~~
